According to psychologist Laura Martinez, sexual violence is the use of power against someone who cannot stop that violence. It is a power legitimized by society itself. The justice and prosecution systems in Mexico are not apart from this phenomenon, because the people that work there “continue having myths and taboos within their heads”, and they continue to blame women on triggering the sexual assaults on them with either their dressing or their behaving.
