Daily Life In The Dominican Republic

Youth practice baseball in a park, in La Romana City in the Dominican Republic, on December 19, 2012. A large number of young people, aged between 8 and 16 years old, train everyday to improve their baseball skills. For these young people and their families, baseball is an opportunity to escape poverty. Some Major League Baseball (MLB) teams, such as Kansas City and Los Angeles Dodgers, have schools to recruit people who might have success in their teams. A 16-year-old Dominican baseball player could get to sign a two million dollars contract with one of the teams, although it doesn't guarantee a career in the MLB. The Dominican Republic is the largest source of foreign players in Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
