St. Francis Of Assisi Day In Mexico
A priest and a dog sit outside the Parish of the Holy Family in Colonia Roma, Mexico City, on the occasion of St. Francis of Assisi Day, patron saint of animals. According to legend, St. Francis of Assisi had a gift with animals, quoted in the anonymous text Florecillas de San Francisco, dating from the 14th century. In that story, a wolf terrorised the village of Gubbio, devouring animals and people, until St. Francis spoke with him and made him a friend. From that moment on, according to tradition, the wolf lived among the people, who looked after it and fed it. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
