Guelaguetza Celebrations Begin In Mexico
At the centre, a member of the ballet folklorico de Cananea, carrying a mojiganga (representation of a large doll with a mask and costume typical of public festivals with carnival roots), during a procession with music and dance in a market in the Iztapalapa district of Mexico City, on July 3, 2022, on the occasion of the Guelaguetza, the most celebrated festival in the state of Oaxaca. The Guelaguetza has its origins in pre-Hispanic times, it is worth mentioning that this festivity began with a ritual that was performed to the ancient gods in a place called by the Zapotecs as Daninayaaloani or Cerro de Bella Vista.
