International Day Of Indigenous Peoples
As part of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples and in honor of San Lorenzo Martir, patron saint of the community of San Lorenzo Tepaltitlan in Toluca, State of Mexico, dancers called "Voladores de Papantla" performed an ancient dance, which consists of climbing to the top of a pole and throwing themselves into the void tied by ropes while dancing through the air, on August 9, 2022. This ritual of the volador dates back to at least 600 BC, that is, it has been practiced for more than 2500 years. (Photo by Arturo Hernández/NurPhoto)
