A general view of the Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 15, 2026. The Election Commission of Thailand is under public scrutiny following allegations of inconsistencies in the results reporting for the 2026 Thai General Election. A case challenging the election's validity, arguing that QR codes on ballots violated constitutionally guaranteed voter secrecy, is now before the Constitutional Court and could void the contest.

The ancient woollen habit traditionally attributed to St. Francis of Assisi is displayed in an illuminated conservation case at the Sanctuary of La Verna, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, on April 9, 2026. The coarse dark-brown tunic with a separate pointed hood shows extensive deterioration, tears, and a large fragmentary void at the chest, consistent with centuries of handling and veneration. A black-and-white chessboard marble floor is partially visible surrounding the case. Preserved as a first-class Franciscan relic, the garment is among the most significant devotional objects at La Verna, where Francis spent extended periods of solitary prayer between 1213 and his death in 1226, including the retreat during which he received the stigmata.

An Oriental ratsnake, also known as Dhaman or darash (Ptyas mucosa), extends its head outward from a hole within a broken staircase in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on April 08, 2026. The snake had entered the hole in search of prey. Monsoons in India often lead to flooding of burrows, drains, and culverts, displacing many snakes from their habitats. India is home to over 350 unique species of snakes, with only 60 being venomous.

The Viettel-1 LEO communication satellite orbits in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). A high-angle, wide shot shows the Viettel communication satellite deployed against the curvature of the Earth and the black void of space. The spacecraft features two large, rectangular multi-junction solar arrays extended to the sides, reflecting intense sunlight. A prominent, high-gain gold-mesh parabolic antenna is positioned at the base, designed for Direct-to-Device (D2D) 5G-Advanced connectivity. The main bus is wrapped in silver and gold multi-layer insulation (MLI), prominently displaying the Viettel corporate logo as it provides ubiquitous network coverage to remote regions during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, on March 5, 2026.

A Kashmiri boatman rows a boat on the waters of Dal Lake during dusk in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 14, 2025. The Pahalgam terror attack leads to the cancellation of nearly 80% of tourist bookings in the valley, delivering a severe blow to the tourism sector, which contributes significantly to the region's GDP. This setback occurs at a time when the region witnesses back-to-back tourism booms and hopes for a bumper tourist season this year as well. At least 26 tourists are killed on April 22 when gunmen open fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, in what officials describe as the most serious civilian attack in the region in recent years. In response, on May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launch 'Operation Sindoor', targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The terror attack leads to an India-Pakistan conflagration from May 7 that ends in a ceasefire announced on May 10. The tourism bodies in Kashmir, including the Chamber of Tourism and the Trade and Industry Katra (CTTIK), report an abrupt drop in tourist arrivals, stressing that this creates an economic void across multiple sectors linked directly and indirectly to tourism.
