Drought In Northern Italy: The Surviving Rice Fields In Novara

Rice harvesting operations in the Vercelli area, richer in water, where drought has caused less damage than elsewhere. Rice needs a lot of water for its life cycle and the area between Novara and Pavia has suffered from severe shortages. The very hot days and the lack of rainfall have created increasing difficulties for farmers and ranchers. Even some crops are sown because they are more resistant to water scarcity in this year of exceptional heat and drought have created problems. The water shortage in the Po river basin was not mitigated during the summer. After a consistent period of drought, the Po river and its basin have a lower than normal water flow rate. Drought is not an unusual phenomenon, but the frequency with which it recurs in recent years is also becoming worried about the impacts it has on animals, flora, and agricultural activities.
