Inhabitants Of Culhuacán, Mexico City, Celebrate Saint Francis Of Assisi

Inhabitants of San Francisco Culhuacán, in Mexico City, perform the Dance of the Santiagueros or Moors and Christians during the commemoration of Saint Francis of Assisi, who lived in Italy in the 12th century and who, according to the Catholic faith, has to do with a village where there was a wolf that frightened all the people and animals. The history of the Santiagueros or Moors and Christians dates back to colonial times. This dance reflects the legendary exploits of the struggles between Moors and Christians in Spain and was adopted during this time by some of the communities in Mexico.
