Climate change: extreme drought in the Baells swamp

The lack of rain has caused extreme drought in most of the swamps of Catalonia. The Baells swamp, in the Bergeda region, is at an all-time low, at 31% of its capacity. Where once there was water there is now parched land. The water level has dropped so much that the town of Sant Salvador de la Vedella, submerged in 1976, has re-emerged. The structure of the Romanesque monastery stands out above all, which is normally surrounded or partially covered by water. Photo from 17th November 2022.
