Elephant-Human Conflict In Sri Lanka
Elephants look for food on the roads of the Minneriya area on February 12, 2023, in Minneriya, Sri Lanka. Data reports indicate that 433 elephant deaths have been recorded in Sri Lanka in the last year of 2022. The majority of these deaths are related to elephant-human conflict. Littering, traps, shootings, and road accidents have also contributed to the elephant deaths. Also, data reports indicate that 145 humans died in 2022 due to elephant-human conflict. These elephants have also influenced the development of Sri Lanka's tourism industry. One of the main reasons for the escalation of elephant-human conflict is the occupation of elephant habitat by humans. Elephant deaths are on the rise every year.
