Elephant-Human Conflict In Sri Lanka

Elephants will come to eat garbage dumped in a forest in the Minneriya region of Sri Lanka on February 12, 2023. The photographs show elephants feeding on garbage dumped in a forest in Minneriya, 207 kilometers from Colombo. Data reports indicate that 433 elephant deaths have been recorded in Sri Lanka in the last year of 2022. The majority of these deaths are related to elephant-human conflict. Littering, traps, shootings, and road accidents have also contributed to the elephant deaths. Also, data reports indicate that 145 humans died in 2022 due to elephant-human conflict. These elephants have also influenced the development of Sri Lanka's tourism industry. One of the main reasons for the escalation of elephant-human conflict is the occupation of elephant habitat by humans. Elephant deaths are on the rise every year.
