Democrats announce legislation to end qualified immunity for police
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) takes a selfie with Karsyn Courtney, the 7-year-old daughter of Korryn Gaines, who was killed by Baltimore County Police while holding her 5-year-old son. Courtney was 14 months old when her mother was shot and killed. Gaines' family was at the US Capitol for a press conference announcing legislation to end qualified immunity for police. Currently, individual police officers are not civilly liable for their actions. In the large majority of cases, Black Americans are the victims, and police are not held criminally liable.
