Democrats announce legislation to end qualified immunity for police
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) (center, in pink) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) take a photo with families of unarmed people killed by police at the conclusion of a press conference announcing legislation to end qualified immunity for law enforcement. Currently, individual police officers are not civilly liable for their actions. Families of victims spoke about the double tragedy of their loved ones’ killings and the inability to hold anyone accountable for their deaths. In the large majority of cases, Black Americans are the victims, and police are not held criminally liable. (Photo by Allison Bailey/NurPhoto)
