The two companies' common shares lost about 19% early in the trading session, reflecting the tragedy in Brumadinho (MG) on the first trading day after that. The opening bid for the two stocks lasted more than normal, but the decline of the Ibovespa was moderate, following the negative variation of the European stock exchanges. At 1:18 pm, the Ibovespa fell 2.63%, to 95,105 points. At the same time, the ON shares of Vale were down 22.48%
