President Andrzej Duda is commemorating the anniversary of the Smolensk disaster at Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland, on April 10, 2024. On April 10, 2010, a Polish Tupolev Tu-154 military plane crashed in Smolensk, resulting in the deaths of 96 people, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, deputy speakers of the Sejm and Senate, as well as commanders of all branches of the Polish Armed Forces. The delegation had been en route to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. The president and his wife were later interred in the Wawel Basilica.
