The Works On The Planned A69 Highway Stopped By A Decision Of The Administrative Court

Opponents express joy after the Administrative Court of Toulouse stops all work on the planned A69 highway. A press conference takes place in Toulouse, France, on February 27, 2025, as plaintiffs (LVEL, Attac, Amis de la Terre, D'Ingrando, etc.) against the planned A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres win an 'administrative' trial on the content in front of the judges of the Administrative Court of Toulouse against the French State, along with the builder NGE and its concessionary Atosca. Judges revoke the environmental authorization to build the A69 highway, thus stopping all work. In December, surprising everyone, the judges decide to reopen the files instead of giving the court decision on the content. Alice Terrasse, the main lawyer for 'La Voie Est Libre' (opponents), pleads, among other things, that the main reason for building this highway, a 'Major Interest Imperative for public interest,' is invalid, as did the 'Rapporteur Public' before. The 'Rapporteur Public' maintains her position that all environmental authorizations should be nullified, taking down the ''Major Interest Imperative for Public Interest.'' The court's decision stops the building of the A69 highway. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free'), opponents want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content are given. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers.

Opponents express joy after the verdict of the Administrative Court of Justice in Toulouse, France, on February 27, 2025, stops all work on the planned A69 highway. A press conference takes place in Toulouse as plaintiffs, including LVEL, Attac, Amis de la Terre, and D'Ingrando, win an administrative trial against the planned A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. The judges of the Administrative Court of Toulouse rule against the French State, the builder NGE, and its concessionary Atosca, revoking the environmental authorization to build the A69 highway, thus halting all work. In December, the judges surprise everyone by deciding to reopen the files instead of issuing a court decision on the content. Alice Terrasse, the main lawyer for 'La Voie Est Libre' (opponents), argues that the main reason for building this highway, a 'Major Interest Imperative for public interest,' is invalid, as previously stated by the 'Rapporteur Public.' The 'Rapporteur Public' maintains her position that all environmental authorizations should be nullified, removing the ''Major Interest Imperative for Public Interest.'' The court's decision stops the construction of the A69 highway. The main association, 'La Voie est Libre' (meaning 'The Way is Free'), wants the construction of the highway to be halted until all judicial decisions on the content are made. Opponents of the project argue that reprofiling the N126 will suffice for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost significantly less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers.

Teachers, professors, and students are striking and taking to the streets in Toulouse, France, on February 1, 2024, against the new Minister of National Education, Amelie Oudea-Castera, due to the lack of resources for public schools. The protesters are demanding her resignation amid scandals involving her children's education at a private Catholic school that practices gender separation and allegations that one of her children bypassed the mandatory 'Parcours Sup' system for school admissions. They are also protesting her authorization of public funding for the private Stanislas school, where her children attend.

Haitian migrants are selling cosmetics outside an overcrowded shelter in the Tlahuac Forest in Mexico City, as they attempt to mobilize and carry out procedures at the facilities of the Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees. They are seeking to extend their stay in Mexico due to the challenges their compatriots face entering the United States. They are also waiting for a permit or ''Visitor Card for Humanitarian Reasons,'' which would allow them access to health services and employment opportunities in Mexico, and enable them to continue their journey to the border.

A coffin reading 'Democracy, work rights,...Macron kills' burns amid clouds of tear gas. For May Day or Labour Day, between 20 and 30,000 people took to the streets in Toulouse. Trade unionists, people, yellow vests, anarchists and members of political partys came to the demonstration. This year, people are worried of what french president Emmanuel Macon will do during his mandate and after the pensions reform which broke French society. Anger after this reform, after the police violence during protests and in Sainte-soline and after the ban of pans and whistles during protests are the main reasons of the scuffles which happened between protesters and riot police. Riot police launched scores of tear gas canisters and used the water cannon. Several protesters have been injured and others have been arresters. Police decided the end of the protest despite the authorization given by the Prefet. Toulouse. France. May 1st 2023.

A placard on a roundabout reads 'If you say No to the A69, Earth will thank you'. The collective 'La Voie Est Libre' (ie 'The Way Is Free') and the farmers organization Confederation Paysanne 81 organized in Soual (Tarn) an action to slow down work on the decried future highway Toulouse-Castres, the A69. They also wanted to protect a farmer in Soual from preventive archeological works due to begin this day against his will. They took all points of reference and all the 'nature' placards put by NGE on the site. They acted as NGE group (poised to build this highway) hasn't all the environmental authorizations to begin the works. Preventive archeological works normally begin after all authorizations have been given. This highway would cost (at date) €512millions for 54 kilometers, half of the money will be public. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural field would be destroyed if the A69 highway is built. Soual. Tarn. France. Spetember 26th 2022.
