On the day of 'World Refugee Day', people across Europe commemorate the 44.000+ victims who died on European borders in the past years. On the beach of Scheveningen, in The Hague, on June 20th, 2021, a pop-up memorial monument was placed close to the sea to pay the last respect to the victims. The memorial monument consisted of 44.000 memorial signs out of wood sticking out of the sand on the beach with the names of the victims written on them.
