Today, October 4, 2019, at the Palazzo delle Aquile, the mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando, conferred the honorary citizenship of Palermo to the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran church Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, characterized by his commitment to the environment and support for NGOs and rescue at sea. The mayor Orlando and the bishop have therefore signed a document of understanding for a greater commitment of the European countries in the Mediterranean. At the ceremony was attended some crew members of the NGO Seawatch.
