The case came to light after a woman asked for help with an abortion was supplied with abortion pills by Wydrzynska, founder of a website that supports women in need of a safe abortion. The woman's husband however confiscated the abortion pills and notified the police. If found guilty Wydrzynska could face up to three years in prison. The case is the first of its kind in Poland and human rights organizations have pledged support including the UN special rapporteur on human rights defenders.

The first marine research ship in the history of Bulgaria ''St. St. Cyril and Methodius'' set sail from the port of Varna on December 27, on its debut scientific mission in the World ocean and off the coast of Antarctica. The voyage assisting the 31-st Bulgarian Antarctic expedition is expected to last four months, and the vessel will take 40 days to reach Livingston Island. The Bulgarian Antarctic base ''St. Kliment Ohridski'' was founded in 1988.
