The lakebed of the the Montbel artificial lake. The Montbel resevoir in the Ariege and Aude departments is well below its normal level due to an unprecedented drought for more than one year. It usually contains 60 millions of cubic meters of fresh water. It was built in 1985 to receive fresh water from the Pyrenees mountains and is meters under its usual levels. The water is normally used for irrigation. Due to the drought, the water is now used to maintain the low water levels in the Ariege and Garonne rivers. One can easily walk on the lakebed and some plants now grow where water was before the drought. In July, rain was 88% less abundant than normal and water restrictions are in place all over France. Montbel. Ariege. France. August 18th 2023.

Leaflets entitled 'Less aircrafts equal more future'. Several collectives (UFCNA, PAPD, CCNAAT, etc) organized a gathering in front of the railway station of Toulouse against aircraft pollution, noise during the night and the endless growth of air transportation during an european week for a ceiling of air movements. They demand a curfew during the night for air transport both freight and passengers such as for Schipol airport (Amsterdam) in the Netherlands. They also speak about the warming gas emitted by aircrafts (as the traffic is poised to double in 2045), the end of subsidies for the planes' fuel, grants for air compagnbies to open new airlines... They cite in example Vueling which opened this week a new line between Toulouse and Barcelona. Toulouse. France. May 12th 2023.
