The flags of Turkey and the self-declared ''Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'' are being seen through a window of an abandoned house, which is being used as a defensive point during the 1974 war, in Nicosia, Cyprus, on July 20, 2024. The Green Line (or buffer zone) is separating the island since 1963 as an initial measure to prevent hostilities between Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots, but since the Turkish invasion in 1974, it is working as a de facto border between the Republic of Cyprus and the self-declared ''Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,'' which only Turkey is recognizing as a legitimate state.
