A striking urban contrast exists in Hanoi, Vietnam, on March 22, 2025. In the foreground, people sort through piles of paper, plastic, and other discarded materials in a cluttered alleyway. Makeshift structures line the street, with bags, bins, and tools scattered across the ground. In the background, a sleek modern high-rise building with a glass facade towers over the scene, highlighting the disparity between rapid urban development and the persistent presence of informal economies and living conditions.

22 April 2024

A Red Rebel from Extinction Rebellion is holding a placard that reads, ''Blood and sap connect us more than asphalt.'' Several thousand people are demonstrating in the streets of Toulouse, France, against the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. Political parties, unions, and NGOs, including La Voie est Libre, GNSA, CGT, Sud, Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, LFI, NPA, Amis de la Terre, and FSU, have called for this day of protest. Several MPs from La France Insoumise, as well as elected officials from towns along the planned A69 route, are participating in the protest. Before the march began, dozens of cyclists arrived from Castres on their bicycles. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' is leading the opposition, demanding that construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions have been made. The expropriations for farmers have not yet been resolved. Opponents argue that reprofiling the N126 would be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles expected per day and would cost significantly less money. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would destroy over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land. The protest is taking place in Toulouse, France, on April 21, 2024.

A man holds a sheet reading 'The A69 destroys the planet and kills our future'. Several hundreds of people came on the Capitole place, in front of the townhall, to build a wall against the decried highway A69 Toulouse-Castres, to suppot the seven on 15 hunger strikers coming to the protest. some hunger strikers are on strike since September 1s. People and hunger strickers protest also against Carole Delga, president of the Conseil, and her support for the building of the contested highway A69 between Toulouse and Castres. The building of the highway A69 between Toulouse and Castres is underway. They want public authorities to react to the ecological consequences of this highway. They ask for a meeting with Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region. They are ready to continue his hunger strike until the works stop. The collective 'La Voie est Libre' (ie 'The Way is Free'), opponents and Thomas Brail want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content to be given. This highway would cost (at 2018 euro value) EUR512millions for 54 kilometers. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural field would be destroyed if the A69 highway is built. Toulouse. France. October 2nd 2023.
