A ''For Lease'' sign appears after the closure of a fast-food restaurant at a food court in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on September 2, 2025. Canada's unemployment rate rises to a nine-year high, outside the pandemic, as the economy sheds 66,000 jobs in August, according to new data from Statistics Canada. The unemployment rate increases to 7.1 percent in August, largely due to a decline in part-time work, a level last seen in May 2016 if the COVID-19 years of 2020 and 2021 are excluded, the data agency says.

A man counts a wad of Indian Rupee currency notes at a market in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 7, 2025. In an escalation of trade tensions between the United States and India, US President Donald Trump, on August 6, 2025, signs an executive order imposing a 25 percent ad valorem tariff on all Indian imports into the United States. The ad valorem duty imposed in Executive Order 14257 applies in addition to the ad valorem duty imposed in section 2 of the order. This effectively means some categories of Indian exports face a combined tariff burden of over 50 percent, depending on their classification.
