A single oral dose of azithromycin was found to significantly lower the risk of maternal sepsis or death among women planning a vaginal delivery, according to new data published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The National Institutes of Health (NIH)-led phase 3 study included 29,278 women who were in labor at 28 weeks' gestation or more and who were planning a vaginal delivery. To manage hospital occupancy rates, the Venezuelan government has 4,000 hotel rooms across the country to house and isolate COVID-19 patients with no or mild symptoms. The Milenio hotel, in the Chaguaramas area, has 60 rooms and now houses 61 patients. They are accommodated in single or double rooms with air conditioning, cable TV and internet service. Patients undergo tests every two to three days and receive doses of chloroquine and azithromycin. There is international concern about the real capacity of the Nicolas Maduro government to control the pandemic due to the health, social and economic crisis that the country is going through
