Bonfire builder preparing a large bonfire to be lit on the Eleventh Night starting marking the start of the unionist Twelfth celebrations, organized by members of the Loyalist Order in Craigy Hill, Larne. Tonight, large bonfires are lit in many Protestant loyalist neighbourhoods of Northern Ireland. Bonfires were originally lit to celebrate the Glorious Revolution (1688) and victory of Protestant king William of Orange over Catholic king James II at the Battle of the Boyne (1690), which began the Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland.
