Residents of a small neighborhood in Toulouse are calling on the NGO GNSA (National Group of Trees Observation) to help protect an at least 80-year-old London plane tree from being cut down. Vincent, a member of the GNSA, is placing a banner that cites a French constitutional law stating, ''Everybody has the duty to contribute to the preservation and improvement of the environment.'' The town hall argues that it is simpler to cut the tree down as its roots are starting to break through the concrete. Trees are widely recognized for their ability to combat the urban heat island effect through shade and evapotranspiration. The inhabitants express their fondness for listening to birds in the morning and emphasize the tree's importance in cooling the area during summer, especially with the increasing number of heatwaves. They also mention that the tree's shade lowers the temperature by nearly 4?C. This is happening in Toulouse, France, on May 2, 2024.

A painted mark indicates that a London plane tree is set to be cut down in a small neighborhood in Toulouse, France, on May 2, 2024. Residents have called upon the NGO GNSA (National Group of Trees Observation) to assist in protecting this tree, which is at least 80 years old. Vincent, a GNSA member, is placing a banner that references a French constitutional law, stating, ''Everybody has the duty to contribute to the preservation and improvement of the environment.'' The local town hall argues that cutting the tree is simpler as its roots are beginning to damage the concrete. Trees are widely recognized for their ability to combat the urban heat island effect through shade and evapotranspiration. The inhabitants express their fondness for the birdsong in the morning and emphasize the tree's importance in cooling the area during the increasingly frequent summer heatwaves. They also note that the tree's shade reduces the temperature by nearly 4?C.

Environmental Researchers Have Long Blamed India's Water Scarcity On The Country's Flawed Agricultural Policies. ''Water Productivity Of Crop'' Is A New Measure That Calculates How Much Water (evapotranspiration) Is Irrigated Per Crop And How Much Is Produced. In Many Districts Of Water-rich Gangetic West Bengal And Assam, The Groundwater Table Has Started To Drop Below 100 Feet On Dry Days (500 Feet Below In Punjab). According To A Report Of The World Bank ''Water Is A Critical Input For Agricultural Production And Plays An Important Role In Food Security. Irrigated Agriculture Represents 20 Percent Of The Total Cultivated Land And Contributes 40 Percent Of The Total Food Produced Worldwide. Due To Population Growth, Urbanization, And Climate Change, Competition For Water Resources Is Expected To Increase, With A Particular Impact On Agriculture. Population Is Expected To Increase To Over 10 Billion By 2050, And Whether Urban Or Rural, This Population Will Need Food And Fiber To Meet Its Basic Needs. Inter-sectoral Water Re-allocations And Significant Shifts Of Water Away From Agriculture Will Also Need To Be Accompanied By Improvements In Water Use Efficiency And Improvements In Water Delivery Systems.'' Water Is Being Supplied To Various Cultivated Lands Through Pipes By Lifting Underground Water Through Palm Sets At Nabin Nagar, West Bengal, India On 30/11/2023.
