A blue boat, the 'Polly Higgins' forms the centrepiece of the 'Summer Uprising' of climate change activist group Extinction Rebellion outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London, England, on July 15, 2019. Demonstrations were also held in Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds and Glasgow. Among their demands for greater action on climate change, protesters are calling for 'ecocide' (i.e. the destruction of ecosystems) to be made a criminal act. Higgins, the late environmental lawyer and campaigner for the criminalisation of ecocide, died in April this year, age 50.
