Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) greets a paricipant at a press conference on Ethan’s Law, a bill to prohibit unsafe gun storage. The law is named for Ethan Song, who was killed by an improperly stored gun at a neighbor’s home. The law would also authorize prosecution of those whose unsecured guns cause injury. House Democratic leaders plan a discharge petition to force a vote in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) celebrates passageof the Inflation Reduction Act after voting in the House of Reprensentatives. The House reconvened during the August recess for a special session to vote on the version of the Inflation Reduction Act passed by the Senate on Sunday. The bill passed on a party-line vote of 220 to 207; all House Republicans voted against the legislation. The bill addresses many Democratic priorities, including, incentives for clean energy, job creation, and lower healthcare costs.
