A statue gifted by the Soviet Socialist Republic in 1959 to the un stands on the grounds at the United Nations Headquarters on September 30, 2024 in New York City. Representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that while migration is decreasing in certain areas in the Mediterranean:an increase of Sudanese migrants crossing from Lybia to Europe is at an increase. UNHCR is urging affected states to combat human trafficking while offering humanitarian assistance and make provisions for migrant documntation for residency and work permits.

The building, designed by Soviet-Russian architect Lev Rudnev in Socialist realism style, is the most symbolic landmark in Warsaw. The palace is a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland. Construction started in 1952 and took three years. With a total height of 237 metres it is the second tallest building in both Warsaw and Poland .
