On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli activists hold up photographs of Palestinians from Gaza who were killed during the war, in a quiet protest near Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial museum in Jerusalem, Israel, on april 24, 2025. This act defies police district commanders' instructions prohibiting such displays. Although there is no official law banning the display of images of Palestinian children killed in Gaza, and despite internal police guidelines and the position of the police's own legal adviser opposing such prohibitions, officers continue to act against these displays. Police prevent protesters from carrying signs deemed ''inflammatory,'' and in some cases, confiscate them. Just last week, officers reportedly assault demonstrators who hold similar signs during protests in Haifa and Jerusalem.

A protester burns a road barrier during a protest against the revision of the regional election law in front of the West Java Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) building in Bandung, Indonesia, on August 23, 2024. The protest against the revision of the regional election law goes on since yesterday. Indonesia's Constitutional Court rules on August 20 that parties do not need a minimum of 20 percent representation in their regional assemblies to nominate a candidate and also decides to uphold the current minimum age limit of 30 for candidates. The constitutional court ruling bars the president's youngest son from running in regional contests in Central Java.
