Funeral pyre waits to receive the body of a high-caste man of importance for cremation at Pashupatinath in Nepal. According to Hindu religion and traditions the dead must be cremated. Along the Bagmati River next to the Pashupatinath Temple complex are ten allocated spaces for cremation and all day funerals are being held. The bodies are cremated according to custom and the ashes and remains are swept into the holy waters. The Bagmati runs into the Ganges further South and is considered equally holy to Hindus.

Chaityas stand amongst other buildings in the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath in Nepal, on December 05, 2011. Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati River in the eastern part of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The temple served as the seat of the national deity, Lord Pashupatinath, Nepal is a secular country. The temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Holy Abodes of Shiva on the continent). Hindus alone are allowed to enter the temple premises.
