Cremation Along The Bagmati River In Pashupatinath

A man prepares a pyre to receive the body of a high-caste man of importance for cremation at Pashupatinath in Nepal. According to Hindu religion and traditions the dead must be cremated. Along the Bagmati River next to the Pashupatinath Temple complex are ten allocated spaces for cremation and all day funerals are being held. The bodies are cremated according to custom and the ashes and remains are swept into the holy waters. The Bagmati runs into the Ganges further South and is considered equally holy to Hindus.
