Health workers check the documents of Kashmiri Muslims during a vaccination drive for Hajj pilgrims at the Hajj House in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 21, 2025. The total quota for Hajj pilgrims from India this year is 175,025. This includes 122,518 pilgrims arranged by the Hajj Committee of India and 52,507 pilgrims under the Combined Hajj Group Operators (CHGOs). Saudi Arabia increases the Indian quota by 10,000 to accommodate more pilgrims, following a request from the Indian government. Officials say that this year, 3,622 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir will perform the holiest Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The Mayor and Public Safety Director say that the officer involved shooting of a mentally ill man was justified. The New Jersey Attorney General is investigating a police-involved shooting in Jersey City that left one man dead. Officers responded to the home on Randolph Avenue near Bramhall Avenue before 2:30 p.m. Sunday after EMS requested police. Officials say police were trying to deescalate the situation, when the man charged at them with a knife. One police officer fired his service weapon and shot the man, authorities said. The man's family identified him as Andrew Jerome Washington, 52. Washington was transported to the hospital for surgery, but was later pronounced dead. Washington's family says he was suffering from a mental health crisis and called for help, but his family did not expect a SWAT team to confront their loved one, who was reportedly in an 'agitated state.'

Murder suicide at a residence in Roxbury, New Jersey, United States took place on March 7, 2023. Memorial set-up outside the residence and Morris County Sheriffs keep watch over the residence and scene in Roxbury, New Jersey on March 8, 2023. A family of three were found dead in a Roxbury home on Justine Place Tuesday morning and were killed in a murder-suicide according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll. Authorities found the bodies of 57-year-old Peter Ventricelli, his wife 58-year-old Kellie and son 15-year-old Anthony Tuesday morning about 10 a.m. during a welfare check which was requested by a family friend at the home on Justine Place in the Succasunna section of Roxbury according to prosecutors. Police say they believe Peter Ventricelli shot his wife and son before killing himself. Investigators determined that the killings took place early in the morning Tuesday, approximately between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., Carroll said. A separate murder-suicide happened one month ago, 9:30 a.m., February 19, 2023 in Linden, New Jersey which claimed the lives of two children, a mother and a father. In the Linden, New Jersey murder-suicide, the father shot his wife and two children then killed himself.
