An environmentalism activist is investigating the eye-level view of a location in the Leuser Ecosystem forest area that has been converted into an oil palm plantation in Aceh and North Sumatra, Indonesia, on June 6, 2018. The Non-Governmental Organization Sustainable Forest Advocacy (Lembahtari) is protesting against several oil palm plantations within the Gunung Leuser National Park area. Lembahtari Chairman, Sayed Zainal, states that the six-year-old palm oil plantation has been absorbing the community's water pockets in the Gunung Leuser protected forest area, leading to a series of flood disasters.

An elephant show geared towards local tourists in the village of Ban Taklang, in Northeastern Thailand. On June 29, 2021 in Surin, Thailand. Thailand has been closed to international tourism for over a year due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Most elephant camps in tourist destinations around the country had to close down and the elephants have now been forced to return home to their original owners. While "elephant tourism" is in itself controversial, at home the animals face an uncertain future, as often they are the only source of income for the families who own them.
