Meysami is a physician who has been on hunger strike in an Iranian prison since October, 2022, demanding the release of political prisoners, an end to hijab requirements, and an end to the execution of protesters. Demonstrations have taken place in Iran since the September, 16, 2022, death of Mahsa Amini in custody of Iran's morality police. The demonstrations pose the most serious threat to the Islamic regime in its 43-year existence.

Organizers and attendees claim that vaccines and mask-wearing should be a personal choice, without regard to public health. The event was billed as a protest against vaccine and mask mandates used to stop the spread of the coronavirus by all Americans, but the crowd overwhelmingly leans right. 20,000 people are expected for the event.
