A man riding his bike stops to lead an impromptu dance party while people engage in a civil disobedience action for formal inclusion of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the U.S. Constitution. Protesters blocked a major intersection in downtown DC, snarling traffic for hours. The amendment gives women the same rights as men under U.S. law, with implications for almost every aspect of life, including equal pay and bodily autonomy. All requirements for the amendment's inclusion in the Constitution have been met.

Members of climate change activist movement Extinction Rebellion (XR) stage an impromptu rave outside the Home Office on Marsham Street on the third day of the group's 'International Rebellion' in London, England, on October 9, 2019. Police officers today continued to clear demonstrators and tents from sites across Westminster, with activists having been warned yesterday that they must move to a designated protest area around Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square or face arrest. Similar blockades by Extinction Rebellion in April, at sites including Oxford Circus and Waterloo Bridge, saw more than 1,000 arrested a tactic promoted by XR founder Roger Hallam as a means of maximising disruption and publicity. Besides London, demonstrations are being staged by XR chapters in dozens of cities around the world.
