A new village development called EcoVillage relocates indigenous people to a better place around the mining company and nickel ore processing smelter in Kawasi Village on September 1, 2024, in Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. Nickel mining development begins in 2010 by a subsidiary of PT. Harita Group. Massive forest destruction results in seawater pollution for small islands in eastern Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest nickel ore miner and contributes to the world's largest battery technology market.

Indians occupied the seat of the Presidency of the Republic on Avenida Paulista, central region of São Paulo, on August 30, 2017. The aim of the demonstrators is to request the revocation of the Ministry of Justice decree that annulled the declaration of the Jaraguá Indigenous Land in the north of São Paulo. The portfolio annulled the directive nº 581, of 2015, that guaranteed more than 500 hectares of land to the guaranis. To do so, he alleged "administrative error in the initial procedure, which resulted in a demand to change the size of indigenous land to 512 hectares." The text also says that the area "was demarcated without the participation of the State of São Paulo in the joint definition of forms Of area use ". For the repeal, also says that the indigenous land Jaraguá has the extension of approximately 3 hectares.
