Experts say however that the number being reported do not reflect the actual number of new cases as a COVID-19 tests are so scarce that officials say case figures are likely a significant undercount. The Ministry of Health said hospital admissions due to COVID-19 reached 720 on Wednesday, up from about 500 before Christmas Day. Large parts of Canada are implementing new restrictions as the fifth wave of COVID-19 fuelled by the Omicron variant saw thousands of new cases across the country over the past few days.
