Lentil - Lens Culinaris
The lentil or Masoor dal (Vicia lens or Lens culinaris) is an edible legume. In cuisines of the Indian subcontinent, where lentils are a staple, split lentils (often with their hulls removed) known as dal are often cooked into a thick curry that is usually eaten with rice or rotis. Masoor dal is a good source of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, vitamins, and other micronutrients. Masoor dal is rich in macronutrients, micronutrients, and bioactive components. Lentils are commonly used in stews and soups. Here Masoor dal pakora is prepared along with Onion after smashing Masoor seed with traditional Bengali Batan (stone) or ''shil nora'', after that pakora curry is prepared, in Tehatta, West Bengal, India on october 09, 2023.(Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
