Amazon Drought
Nossa Senhora de Fatima (Amazonas), 10th Oct 2023 - Uncontrolled forest fires are raging in the area near the Nossa Senhora de Fatima community, close to the Rio Negro. Within the first 16 days of October alone, INPE (National Institute for Space Research) detected 3,060 fire outbreaks in the state of Amazonas, at the peak of the worst drought ever experienced by the Amazon rainforest. This crisis has positioned the state as the second-largest victim of these intentional fires, a relatively new issue in this region, located in the heart of the Amazon.
