Castellers De Vilafranca In Mexico

A woman survivor of exile is sharing space with the Castellers de Vilafranca de Catalunya in the Zocalo of Mexico City, who are preparing to present for the first time in Mexico the creation of human towers. These towers are one of the most genuine and unique cultural manifestations of Europe, with a history spanning more than 200 years. This year, the Castellers de Vilafranca are celebrating their 75th anniversary and are marking the occasion by visiting Mexico, a symbolic country for Catalonia. They are commemorating historical ties of friendship that have been forged over centuries of exchange and, most importantly, recognizing Mexico as the land of exile and welcome for thousands of Catalans after the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939.
