Farmers Protest In Toulouse
Farmers are protesting in Toulouse, France, on January 16, 2024, by turning a town indication panel upside down on their tractors to express their anger. The FDSEA and JA farmers' unions have called their members to protest not only in Toulouse but also elsewhere in France, urging the government for assistance. The farmers are arriving with their tractors and are blocking the streets during the protest. They are protesting against the increase in water usage fees, taxes on biocides, and the implementation of the EGAlim law. They are also demanding that the French government ''cut the red tape.'' During the protest, farmers are pouring manure and waste at the entrance of a building housing several agencies related to agriculture: Ademe (for efficient energy use), the Adour-Garonne water agency, and the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity). Some farmers have attempted to break into the building but were stopped by Gendarmerie and Police officers. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
