The Indonesia Reforestation Polemic

Environmental activists are protesting in a unique way against the conversion of part of the Leuser Ecosystem forest area into an oil palm plantation. The protest is taking place at the coordinates of 3.967193? N 98.020768? E on June 6, 2018. The Non-Governmental Organization Sustainable Forest Advocacy (Lembahtari) is specifically targeting several oil palm plantations within the Gunung Leuser National Park area, on the border between the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra, Indonesia. ''This six-year-old palm oil plantation has been depleting the community's water sources in the protected Gunung Leuser forest area and has led to a series of flood disasters,'' stated Lembahtari Chairman, Sayed Zainal.
