The Indonesia Reforestation Polemic
An eye-level view is capturing the process of forest degradation where part of the Leuser Ecosystem forest area is being converted into an oil palm plantation in Indonesia, on June 6, 2018. The Non-Governmental Organization Sustainable Forest Advocacy (Lembahtari) is protesting against several oil palm plantations within the Gunung Leuser National Park area, especially on the border between the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra. ''This six-year-old palm oil plantation is currently absorbing the community's water pockets in the Gunung Leuser protected forest area and has led to a series of flood disasters,'' says Lembahtari Chairman, Sayed Zainal.
