Jatayu Earth Center

The world's largest bird sculpture, representing Jatayu, is on display at the Jatayu Earth Center in Chadayamangalam, Kerala, India, on April 6, 2024. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Jatayu was a demi-god who took the form of a vulture. He is known for his attempt to rescue Sita when the demon king Ravana was abducting her to Lanka. Despite fighting bravely, Jatayu was defeated by Ravana, who clipped his wing, causing Jatayu to fall onto the rocks in Chadayamangalam. Legend has it that this sculpture stands on the very rock where Jatayu fell. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
