Iran-Daily Life In Iran’s First Ever Nuclear Seaport City Of Bushehr

A street is bustling with activity at a bazaar in Bushehr, Iran's first nuclear seaport city, located in Bushehr province on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, 1090km (677 miles) south of Tehran, on April 28, 2024. Initially, in 1975, Iran aimed to provide electricity and diversify energy resources by signing a contract with the German company Siemens to build the Bushehr nuclear power plant. However, the Islamic Revolution in 1979 brought construction to a halt, and Germany ceased work due to political sanctions. After years of delays, in 2004, the Islamic Republic of Iran struck a deal with Russia to finish the project. Eventually, 27 years after construction began, the Bushehr nuclear power plant became fully operational and was connected to the national electricity grid in 2011, marking it as Iran's first and only active nuclear power plant.
