Commemorative Ceremony For The Anniversary Of The Fosse Ardeatine Massacre
In Rome, Italy, on March 24, 2025, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, attend a ceremony for the 81st anniversary of the massacre at the Fosse Ardeatine. The Ardeatine massacre results in the deaths of 335 civilians and Italian soldiers in Rome on March 24, 1944, by German Nazi occupation troops during the Second World War as a reprisal for the Via Rasella partisan attack conducted on the previous day in central Rome against the SS Police Regiment Bozen. Subsequently, the Ardeatine Caves site (Fosse Ardeatine) is declared a Memorial Cemetery and National Monument open daily to visitors. (Photo by Andrea Ronchini/NurPhoto)
