Commemorative Ceremony For The Anniversary Of The Fosse Ardeatine Massacre
In Rome, Italy, on March 24, 2025, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, attend the ceremony for the 81st anniversary of the massacre at the Fosse Ardeatine. The Ardeatine massacre occurs on March 24, 1944, when German Nazi occupation troops kill 335 civilians and Italian soldiers in Rome as a reprisal for the Via Rasella partisan attack conducted the previous day in central Rome against the SS Police Regiment Bozen. Subsequently, the Ardeatine Caves site (Fosse Ardeatine) is declared a Memorial Cemetery and National Monument, open daily to visitors. (Photo by Andrea Ronchini/NurPhoto)
