Heavy Snowfall Hits Kashmir Region In India
In Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, India, on January 23, 2026, people remove snow from the roof of a mosque in south Kashmir's Shopian district. Heavy snowfall hits across the Kashmir valley, forcing authorities to cancel flights at Srinagar airport. The highways and roads, particularly in the upper reaches and some areas of the plains, are also closed due to icy conditions and snow accumulation. According to the weather department, the areas close to the Pir Panjal range are severely affected by the snowfall, particularly Shopian district. The impact of the snowstorm extends to parts of Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, Kupwara, and Baramulla districts. (Photo by Faisal Khan/NurPhoto)
