RSP Choose Balen As Party Parliamentary Leader Paving Way To Be Prime Minister

Balendra Shah, a senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), arrives at the federal parliament premises in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 26, 2026, a day ahead of his swearing-in as Prime Minister. According to the RSP charter, only the parliamentary party leader can become the prime minister. An agreement between RSP President Rabi Lamichhane and Shah on December 28 outlines that the party will officially prepare Shah for the role with the vote of its 182 House members. Former TV host and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane will continue to serve as the Rastriya Swatantra Party's central chairperson, while Balendra Shah will be the parliamentary party leader and future prime minister candidate following the House of Representatives election, as stated in Point 4 of their agreement.
